LA VALLETTA

The weekend house is situated in the Borgo of Brisighella on a hill with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. It rises as the restoration of an old barn that is part of the house complex of the client with the aim to transform it from a ruin to a vibrant new space. For this intervention, the design is based on exposing the old wooden roof and the brick columns that support it by detaching the new volume creating in this way a "box in a box". Steel columns support the existing brick ones and the timber roof securing in the shell. The choice of materials follows the local building tradition. Wooden floors and venetian plaster walls as tactile surfaces enhance the warm and cozy atmosphere in the interior. The exterior greenery works as an extension of the main house"s exquisite dry garden.
